UMD Research Administration Leader Wins Inaugural INORMS Award for Excellence in Research Management Leadership

University of Maryland (UMD) Associate Vice President for Research Administration Denise Clark has been selected to receive the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) inaugural award for Excellence in Research Management Leadership. INORMS established the award to honor individuals from the organization’s member societies who have made substantial contributions to the research management profession internationally. The award winners will be honored at a gala dinner at the 2018 INORMS congress in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Clark, who joined the UMD community in 2007, plays a crucial role in supporting the university’s research, creative activities, and outreach initiatives. In addition to being responsible for all human resources and budgetary decisions on behalf of the vice president for research, Clark oversees proposal preparation and submission, award negotiation and management, compliance with university, state, and federal regulations, and strategic planning for the Division of Research. She also has led countless workshops, conferences, and other training opportunities to educate the international research community on how to tackle the challenges of federal funding, compliance, and policy in the United States and abroad. Additionally, Clark launched UMD's Borderless Research Administration Knowledge Exchange (BRAKE) initiative to facilitate international research collaborations by reducing administrative obstacles for researchers and encouraging joint proposal endeavors, research administration, and research exchange programs.
