Caroline Chen

Intellectual Property Manager



Dr. Caroline Chen manages the University’s intellectual property assets at the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC). She handles patent prosecution and IP portfolio development. She also liaises with and advises inventors, staff, licensees, and outside counsel on IP matters, including patent strategy.   

As a patent attorney, Caroline has in-depth experience in both research and law practice. She investigated synthetic methodology in organic chemistry in her dissertation and postdoc research. During her tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, she was named inventor in several patents related to novel small molecule drugs. Prior to joining the University, she practiced patent law in an IP boutique firm, where she specialized in patent prosecution, patent litigation, and client counseling.

Caroline received a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from University of Pennsylvania, and a J.D. degree from the George Washington University Law School. She is licensed to practice law in DC and New York, and is registered before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
